Voxeljet systems print models in PMMA plastic, a material that functions as an alternative to wax materials used in traditional investment casting processes. With this process there is no need to create the mold for injection of the wax parts. The part is simply printed directly from the machine, and then is used as-is for regular coating with ceramic slurry, removal of the wax-like material by heating, and finally casting of the metal part into the cavity remaining in the ceramic shell.
